Dear Church Family:
In the Mid-South, our strength runs deep. We all know that churches are truly anchor institutions in our community – beacons of hope, guidance and inspiration to our members and the communities that surround us. However, we also face challenges and right now, we are facing a silent threat to our congregation – obesity.
Cancer and heart disease were identified as the top two causes of death in Shelby and DeSoto County in Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare’s most recent Community Health Needs Assessment. Obesity can be a contributing factor to these two diseases and many others.
Healthier 901, led by Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, aims to address obesity head on by challenging the community to lose 1 million pounds in three years. As members of the Congregational Health Network, we can join in solidarity to/and go on this journey together.
I am asking you to join me in creating a healthier church body. I know it’s hard to make big changes alone.
By joining together, we can become an unstoppable force and make a difference in the lives of our family, friends, neighbors and community.
To join me, go to Healthier901.com to register. Once you’ve registered, be sure to join the Grace United Methodist Churcg group on your Healthier 901 dashboard. You can also download the free app, which helps track your food and fitness activities, provides wellness tips and connects you with other participants. You can even have a little friendly challenge!
More information and dates will be provided soon!!
I will leave you with this word from Romans 12:4-5. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
